Located at the historic Fort Des Moines, The Outpost repurposes an underused armory into a vibrant community center for young adults and children in Des Moines, Iowa. While the exterior honors its military heritage, the interior opens into a world of imagination, discovery, and exploration.
Designed as a welcoming third space beyond home and work, The Outpost offers art and music spaces, workshops, a multicultural library, and flexible programming that celebrates the diversity of its community. Modular furniture, a workshop-like atmosphere, and dynamic programming encourage hands-on collaboration and cultural exchange. Like a mosaic, each individual brings a distinct piece to a greater creative whole.
The Atrium
Flexible and ever-changing, the atrium shifts between three configurations to bring the community together for any occasion.
